{"id":1872,"date":"2015-04-21T11:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-04-21T16:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stgwww.capella.edu\/blogs\/cublog\/?p=1872"},"modified":"2016-08-01T12:51:42","modified_gmt":"2016-08-01T17:51:42","slug":"flexpath-graduates-in-the-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stgwww.capella.edu\/blogs\/cublog\/flexpath-graduates-in-the-news\/","title":{"rendered":"FlexPath Graduates in the News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Capella University recently graduated one of the first classes of FlexPath students, and their stories bring a new light to the model\u2014first-hand experience with measurable results.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>FlexPath is a competency-based education direct assessment model, giving adult students the option\u00a0to accelerate through their learning.\u00a0It\u2019s a model ideally suited to working adults who want or need to earn a degree while juggling the rest of their lives (jobs, families, activities, you name it). <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Read the recent <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.startribune.com\/\"><em>StarTribune<\/em><\/a><em> profile on FlexPath, \u201c<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.startribune.com\/business\/299373251.html?page=1&amp;c=y\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Capella aims to accelerate education.<\/em><\/a><em>\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Graduates have been busy sharing their stories\u2014and their perspectives on direct assessment, and FlexPath in particular\u2014with a number of publications in the past two months:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Politico<\/a> featured <a href=\"http:\/\/www.capella.edu\/online-degrees\/bachelors-business-administration\/\">BS in Business Administration<\/a> degree graduates John Scafide, Tapitha Jamison, and Tracy Dudley in a piece in its daily education policy section entitled \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/morningeducation\/0315\/morningeducation17464.html\" target=\"_blank\">Affordability, Accessibility and Flexibility<\/a>.\u201d It highlighted each graduate\u2019s achievements after years of struggling to finish.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecampusnews.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">eCampus News<\/a>, which covers a variety of topics around educational technology, profiled Scafide and Jamison as recent FlexPath graduates, recounting their experience in \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecampusnews.com\/top-news\/capella-flexpath-learners-500\/?\" target=\"_blank\">New pathway in higher-ed sifts out serious professionals.<\/a>\u201d Dr. Cheryl Bann, chair of Capella\u2019s MBA program, talked about the important relationship faculty, and all support services, play in FlexPath.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usnews.com\/education\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. News &amp; World Report<\/a> included interviews with both Scafide and Kim Pearce, Capella\u2019s academic quality analytics and accreditation director, in its article \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.usnews.com\/education\/online-education\/articles\/2015\/03\/03\/competency-based-education-4-considerations-for-online-students?int=95a608\" target=\"_blank\">Competency-Based Education: 4 Considerations for Online Students.<\/a>\u201d Competency-based education, and specifically direct assessment, isn\u2019t the best fit for everyone.
