As technology becomes an ever increasing presence within health care facilities, the need to combine nursing knowledge with information technology is of increased importance, especially when prioritizing efficient patient care.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s where nurse informaticists come in. The American Medical Informatics Association<\/a> (AMIA) defines nursing informatics as the\u00a0“science and practice (that) integrates nursing, its information and knowledge, with management of information and communication technologies to promote the health of people, families, and communities worldwide.”<\/p>\n Nurse informaticists are at the forefront of change, interpreting and analyzing medical data to improve patient care and population health, while also helping to reduce costs. \u00a0A nurse informaticist uses the wide array of computer science and information technology available to figure out the best solutions for an enhanced delivery of patient care.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
