This process has encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone and provided me with the confidence to do so.\u201d\u00a0 Batina Smith, Capella Business Leader Award winner<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe winners of the Capella Business Leader Award exemplify hard work and dedication to becoming business leaders in their industries.\u201d Barbara Butts Williams, Capella University Executive Dean, External Relations and Partnerships and Dean Emeritus, Business<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In early December 2015, Capella University announced the recipients of its Capella Business Leader Award, an annual award sponsored by <em>The Wall Street Journal<\/em> and bestowed on students enrolled in the university\u2019s online business programs who demonstrate academic excellence and a comprehensive understanding of today\u2019s business environment*.<\/p>\n<p>The three winners are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jennifer Meyer, MBA in Health Care Management.<\/li>\n<li>Batina Smith, BS in Business with a Human Resource Management specialization.<\/li>\n<li>Dana Stewart, PhD in Business with a Finance specialization.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3865\"  class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-3865 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/stgwww.capella.edu\/blogs\/cublog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2016\/01\/IMG_1170.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1170\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1536\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stgwww.capella.edu\/blogs\/cublog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2016\/01\/IMG_1170.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/stgwww.capella.edu\/blogs\/cublog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2016\/01\/IMG_1170-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stgwww.capella.edu\/blogs\/cublog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2016\/01\/IMG_1170-613x460.jpg 613w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 639px) 98vw, (max-width: 1199px) 64vw, 770px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jennifer Meyer, Batina Smith, and Dana Stewart.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The winners visited New York City, where they took an insider\u2019s tour of <em>The<\/em> <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em><em>, <\/em>met with Dow Jones Talent Development leaders, and rang the closing bell at NASDAQ.\u00a0They also\u00a0participated in a career development session on the power of negotiation<\/p>\n<p>While the attendees enjoyed all the events, the last item was a special highlight. \u201cThe closing bell ceremony at NASDAQ was an amazing moment,\u201d says Meyer. \u201cIt was a well-coordinated experience with great visibility and energy. It was the perfect event to recognize individuals for business leadership. I realize I have unlimited potential. My experience has been an on-going adventure teaching me that things I thought were not possible <em>are<\/em> possible, and perseverance is essential!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stewart adds, \u201cMy entire educational experience at Capella has been extraordinary from the start. Winning this award increases my desire not only to succeed, but also to help others succeed in future endeavors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Capella\u2019s collaboration with <em>The Wall Street Journal <\/em>began in early 2015 with the common goals of expanding students\u2019 knowledge of business, strategy, leadership, finance, and economics.
