Women represent more than 47% of the workforce, yet only 25% of STEM workers are female. Getting more women interested and involved in the analytics area could help fill that gap.

That’s why Capella University and analytics leader SAS have joined forces to provide pathways for women to enter and advance in this high-demand field. The Capella Women in Analytics scholarships will provide two full-ride scholarships each for Capella’s Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, minor in Data Analytics program and Master of Science in Analytics program, as well as mentoring and networking opportunities. The application period runs from April 20, 2016 through June 13 2016.

Winners will also have the opportunity to attend the 2016 Analytics Experience in Las Vegas. In addition, they are invited to visit the SAS corporate headquarters in Cary, N.C., where they will network with other analytics professionals, including the SAS Women’s Initiatives Network (WIN). WIN is a group of 600+ female SAS employees who foster female leadership and professional excellence at SAS and reach into communities to encourage women to pursue STEM-related careers.

“Employers are clamoring for analytics experts to make sense of their data,” says Emily Baranello, vice president of the SAS Education Practice. “Women are too frequently underrepresented among those seizing these rewarding opportunities. Efforts like this will help turn the tide.”

What to Know Before You Apply

Applicants must meet Capella University admission requirements. Submissions will be judged by a joint Capella and SAS panel.

Eligible applicants who do not win full scholarships may still receive a $5,000 scholarship toward a BS in IT or a $3,000 scholarship toward an MS in Analytics.

Capella and SAS have worked together since 2014; programs developed in collaboration with SAS include:

Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, minor in Data Analytics

Bachelor of Science in Business, minor in Business Intelligence

Master of Science in Analytics

Certificate in Analytics Using SAS

Certificate in Advanced Analytics Using SAS

Read the full press release.

Only 25% of STEM professionals are female.
