Capella University graduated a new class of FlexPath students in March 2015, and their stories bring a new light to the model—first-hand experience with measurable results.
FlexPath is a competency-based education direct assessment model, giving adult students an option to accelerate through their learning. It’s a model ideally suited to working adults who want or need to earn a degree while juggling the rest of their lives (jobs, families, activities, you name it).
Prior to the official kick-off of commencement weekend celebrations, Capella President Scott Kinney sat down with four FlexPath graduates to talk with them about their experience—why they selected FlexPath, their first impressions, advice for new FlexPath students, and more.
Why FlexPath? “It gave me the opportunity to study at my pace.” “I could immediately take what I was learning, and apply it in the workplace.”
What were their first impressions? Flexibility, the ability to work at your own pace, curriculum you can use immediately on the job…there has to be a catch, right?
Faculty, coaches, tutors, plus a community of fellow students—FlexPath support covers the spectrum.
Control, speed, and cost are all aspects of flexibility that FlexPath provides. What was most valuable? It depends on who you ask.
What advice would these graduates give new FlexPath students?
Finally, what are the secrets to their success in FlexPath? Commitment. Feeling inspired. Feeling empowered. And a healthy dose of ego.
